Some thoughts about the BOOK of REVELATION

There is an inseparable bond between the book of Genesis and the book of Revelation. Each without the other would be incomplete. In Genesis, we see “Paradise lost” and in Revelation, “Paradise regained”. The language of Revelation is Greek, but all its thoughts and idioms are Hebrew. All the imagery of the book (temple, tabernacle, altar, etc.) belong to Israel. The most Hebrew Gospel, Matthew, has 92 quotations from the Old Testament, the epistle to the Hebrews has 102, but the book of Revelation has no less than 285.

The book of Revelation also has strong ties with the book of Daniel. Its “beasts” are an amplification of Daniel’s “beasts” and, therefore, fit into the same chronological framework. Jesus promised a blessing to those who hear the words of this book and keep them (Revelation 1:3 and 21:7). At the same time, He issued a stern warning against those who dare take anything away from this book or add anything to it (Revelation 21:18,19).

Old Testament issues and the Heyday of Israel

From the very first pages of Scripture, the devil has fought tooth and nail against everything God spoke. He used every tactic at his disposal: deceit, counterfeit, deviation, outright denial, and rabid aggression. He also donned every camouflage possible: a subtle and beautiful serpent (it must have appeared very different in Genesis chapter 3 from what we know as ‘serpents’); an angel of light; a great academic; even a saintly priest; and many others. The devil is powerful, but not almighty. He is clever, but he also makes misjudgements. He is knowledgeable, but he does not know everything. While he has some great successes, he also has devastating failures. He is determined and his attack is relentless, but he is doomed. His final defeat and destruction are looming ever closer.

The very first words Scripture quotes as coming from the mouth of the devil to man, are these: “Yea, hath God said?” and so, Satan placed a question mark against God’s Word. This is something he is still constantly doing.

Hul volkome oorwinning by Bloed Rivier – sonder ‘n enkele verlies aan hulle kant – was een van die grootste wonderwerke in militêre geskiedenis.

A season had passed and a new season was upon them. These men had an insight into the seasons of YHWH, and this insight assisted them to make good decisions for the betterment of the nation as a whole.

Gen 8:22    “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”

YHWH created seasons. Seasons are patterns which repeat themselves unerringly. Season follows season with predictable repetition, just like day follows night, and summer follows winter.

Mat 7:15    “Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.”

Mat 24:11  “Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many.”

The Apostle Paul also gave similar warnings:

Soos ons deur hierdie studie werk, sal ons sien hoe gereeld die vyand misleiding gebruik om YHWH se ewige reddingsplan en herstel van sy wonderlike skepping, asook die volk wat Hy uitverkies het om sy boodskapper van daardie herstel te wees, te vernietig. Mag die Here ons oë oopmaak om WAARHEID te sien en te verstaan, en deur dit te verstaan, om met selfversekering op daardie pragtige smal pad te wandel, ons oë vas op Jesus gerig, die Leidsman en Voleinder van ons geloof.

Mag WAARHEID uiteindelik seëvier.

The leaders of the Reformation of the 16th to 18th centuries were unified in their fervent teaching declaring the Pope to be the Antichrist. As a result of the teaching of the Reformers, millions of people who were being brought to Christ, left the false Roman Catholic system. In an effort to bring these people back into their church, the Roman Pontiff instructed a Jesuit priest, Francisco Ribera, to undermine the prevailing Reform teaching by means of a false counter-teaching. This doctrine would present the Antichrist as a singular infidel who would make his appearance in the future after a so-called rapture, and who would rule the world once Jesus had come to take His saints away into heaven. This doctrine would effectively remove the accusing Protestant finger from the false Roman Papal system. This Jesuit teaching published in 1591, formed the foundation of the doctrine we now know as the futurist interpretation of Bible prophecy.

Before we look at the beautiful promises related to the first resurrection, we need to understand the heart of the teaching about the return of Jesus back to earth as King, the victorious event which will precipitate the first resurrection.

Die Skrif leer ons duidelik dat sonder hoop daar geen geloof kan wees nie. Geloof is gebaseer op hoop. Dit is dus noodsaaklik dat ons hoop stewig gegrond is op die waarheid van die Woord.

The restoration of ALL things is surely the dream or hope of all believers. No more violence or sickness or suffering or pain. No more lying and cheating. No more fear. No more sin. No more death. It is a dream of Utopia. It almost seems as if that is impossible and will never be a reality.

However, this is exactly what the Bible teaches that is awaiting those who put their trust in Jesus. I don’t think it will be possible to fully comprehend the magnitude of this “dream”. Yet it is our motivation for enduring whatever suffering we might experience.

The Scriptures have much to say about the restoration of all things. Some key passages are those which quote Elijah’s ministry of restoration: Here is a quotation from Jesus, quoted out of the Old Testament book of Malachi

As inleiding herhaal ek ‘n gedeelte van die laaste deel van Boek 9 omdat dit as inleiding dien vir hierdie boek, Boek 10. In Boek 9 – Die herstel van alle dinge, het ons Christus se duisendjaar-heerskappy op die aarde behandel. Die tydperk is verseker een duisend jaar soos wat die volgende Skrif aandui. Tydens hierdie duisend jaar-tydperk sal die duiwel en sy demoniese magte, volgens die Skrif, toegesluit wees en sal daarom die aarde se bewoners nie meer kan versoek nie. Die opstand aan die einde van die duisend jaar sal dus die harte van die mense wat teen YHWH en sy volk in opstand kom, openbaar. Die volgende Skrifgedeelte hanteer hierdie onderwerp:

Open 20:3 “… daarna moet hy [die duiwel] dan ‘n kort tydjie ontbind word.”

20:5            “En die ander dode het nie herlewe totdat die duisend jaar voleindig was nie …”

Oor een ding kan ons seker wees, dat daar vir dié wat tot sterwe kom, geen meer kans is om te verander of hulle te bekeer nie. Die Skrif sê:

Heb 9:27 “En net soos die mense bestem is om eenmaal te sterwe en daarna die oordeel.”
