Believers are generally confused about end-times teachings. Many Christian leaders hardly broach the subject in their preaching, except for a vague mention that we are in the ‘end times’, or ‘Jesus is coming soon’.

Prophetic Bible teaching is not guesswork. Neither is it a collection of weird impossible-to-understand predictions of future events, given by fanatical people. To the contrary, these Scriptures have much more to do with warning wayward people of the folly of their ways, and guiding them towards truth.

Bible prophecy gives believers courage, based on a sure hope. Jesus reigns supreme through all of history – past, present and future. Though there are warnings of difficult times to come, there are far more teachings about restoration and the advance of God’s kingdom.

This book examines approximately one thousand seven hundred passages of Scripture. Their end time message is positive and uplifting. Believers are encouraged and given practical instruction for a life of victory in spite of difficult times. It deals with the historical background of the end times teaching as well as a summary of solid Biblical truths, laying a good foundation for hope, and helping to clear some of the general confusion that exists on the subject.

I have often been asked questions about the celebration of Christmas – the date, 25 December, Christmas trees, the celebration itself, presents, lights, etc. There is much debate about this and criticism without proper research or reason. So let us have a brief but reasonable look at what the Bible says about this subject. Please note that this has purposefully been designed as a short study to give questioning people some reasonable answers. It is not an in-depth study. Such an in-depth study would fill volumes with the most wonderful truths. I am purposefully keeping away from meaningless and empty religious-sounding criticism, as such will be of no worth. My purpose is to encourage your faith in the wonders of Scripture and the exactness of prophetic fulfilment.

Maar wanneer die familie disfunksioneel is en die ouers hulle eie probleme het, voel die kinders en tieners heeltemal verlore in ‘n wêreld wat nie sin maak nie.

Dit is dan wanneer die jongmens begin smag na verhoudings met mense wat werklik omgee, of na iemand wat liefderyke leiding vir hulle soekende vrae kan gee.

“Hoe moet ek hierdie ding wat hulle die lewe noem, hanteer? Is daar ‘n God? Ek is so verward.” Dit is in hierdie verwarring wat hierdie reeks boeke poog om rigting te gee. Leer om te hoor is die eerste stap in die regte rigting om betekenis in die lewe te vind

But when the family is dysfunctional and the parents are having problems of their own, the children and teenagers feel completely lost in a world that does not make sense.

It is here that the young person starts to have a craving for relationships with people who really care, or someone who can give loving guidance to their searching questions.

“How do I do this thing called life? Is there a God? I’m so confused.” It is into this confusion that this series of books attempts to give direction. Learning to hear is the first step in the right direction to finding meaning in life.

Some thoughts about the BOOK of REVELATION

There is an inseparable bond between the book of Genesis and the book of Revelation. Each without the other would be incomplete. In Genesis, we see “Paradise lost” and in Revelation, “Paradise regained”. The language of Revelation is Greek, but all its thoughts and idioms are Hebrew. All the imagery of the book (temple, tabernacle, altar, etc.) belong to Israel. The most Hebrew Gospel, Matthew, has 92 quotations from the Old Testament, the epistle to the Hebrews has 102, but the book of Revelation has no less than 285.

The book of Revelation also has strong ties with the book of Daniel. Its “beasts” are an amplification of Daniel’s “beasts” and, therefore, fit into the same chronological framework. Jesus promised a blessing to those who hear the words of this book and keep them (Revelation 1:3 and 21:7). At the same time, He issued a stern warning against those who dare take anything away from this book or add anything to it (Revelation 21:18,19).

The restoration of ALL things is surely the dream or hope of all believers. No more violence or sickness or suffering or pain. No more lying and cheating. No more fear. No more sin. No more death. It is a dream of Utopia. It almost seems as if that is impossible and will never be a reality.

However, this is exactly what the Bible teaches that is awaiting those who put their trust in Jesus. I don’t think it will be possible to fully comprehend the magnitude of this “dream”. Yet it is our motivation for enduring whatever suffering we might experience.

The Scriptures have much to say about the restoration of all things. Some key passages are those which quote Elijah’s ministry of restoration: Here is a quotation from Jesus, quoted out of the Old Testament book of Malachi

Mat 17:11 “And He answered and said, ‘Elijah is coming and will restore all things …’”

The leaders of the Reformation of the 16th to 18th centuries were unified in their fervent teaching declaring the Pope to be the Antichrist. As a result of the teaching of the Reformers, millions of people who were being brought to Christ, left the false Roman Catholic system. In an effort to bring these people back into their church, the Roman Pontiff instructed a Jesuit priest, Francisco Ribera, to undermine the prevailing Reform teaching by means of a false counter-teaching. This doctrine would present the Antichrist as a singular infidel who would make his appearance in the future after a so-called rapture, and who would rule the world once Jesus had come to take His saints away into heaven. This doctrine would effectively remove the accusing Protestant finger from the false Roman Papal system. This Jesuit teaching published in 1591, formed the foundation of the doctrine we now know as the futurist interpretation of Bible prophecy.

Before we look at the beautiful promises related to the first resurrection, we need to understand the heart of the teaching about the return of Jesus back to earth as King, the victorious event which will precipitate the first resurrection.

In the Scriptures, much time is devoted to the birth, character, and final destiny of these two cities – one diametrically opposed to the other. These cities are JERUSALEM and BABYLON. They are mentioned 1 097 times in the Scriptures (Jerusalem 811 times and Babylon 286 times). The one is YHWH’s city, which He loves, and the other is Satan’s city, which he exploits in an attempt to overthrow everything which is GOOD.
