We find this phrase, “Receive the Holy Spirit”, at least six times in the New Testament. The above is quoted from the words of Jesus after His resurrection on the occasion of His first appearance to His disciples as they were gathered together behind locked doors for fear of the Jews. They were filled with awe and amazement as He showed them the nail prints in His hands, and they realised that this really was Jesus. Then Jesus breathed on them and said these words, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” This was prior to the Pentecostal experience which they were to experience when they were baptised in the Holy Spirit not many days thereafter.
In our travels throughout South Africa, and especially to the remote parts of the country, we are often confronted by questions from very ordinary people, somewhat traditional in their Christian faith. One of the most prevalent questions is about the Holy Spirit.
